Wellness Spotlight: Anisha Joshi

Tell us about your background and what it is you currently do.

My name is Anisha Joshi, and I’ve been a qualified osteopath for over 14 years. Some people like to call me “The Pain Expert” because of my unique method of treating pain and empowering people to live their best, pain-free lives. My journey in osteopathy has been a blend of challenges and achievements.

I started my clinic in Hitchin at the age of 24, got into debt to make it happen, and worked incredibly hard to expand it from a single osteopath to a team that now includes 5 osteopaths, 3 sports massage therapists, a doctor, a nutritionist, a holistic therapist, and a psychotherapist, among others. Over time, I expanded into London and more recently into Surrey and Berkshire. Alongside running my four clinics in the UK, I am passionate about sharing my knowledge through various platforms, including TV appearances, recording podcasts, and social media content. I’ve also had the honor of appearing as an expert on This Morning on ITV, where I share tips on keeping the body moving and the benefits of osteopathy.

Why is Osteopathy so important right now?

Osteopathy is incredibly relevant today because it empowers people to take control of their health in a holistic way. In a world where so many of us spend hours sitting at desks or living sedentary lives, the rise of back pain, musculoskeletal issues, and general aches and discomfort is prevalent. Over 84% of adults will experience back pain in their lifetime. Osteopathy offers an effective, non-invasive way to address these problems. More than just treating the symptoms, it looks at the body as a whole—physically and mentally—giving patients the tools to understand and manage their pain long-term. As people become more focused on proactive health management and preventative care, osteopathy provides a valuable approach to living a pain-free life. In my practice, I aim to not only treat pain but also to empower people to keep it from coming back.

You are entrepreneurial and a business leader having made the decision to open your own clinic, what led to you deciding to open your own clinic instead of working under someone else?

The decision to open my own clinic came from a deep-rooted desire to work for myself and create something that was truly my own. Growing up, I watched my parents work incredibly hard, and that instilled a strong sense of drive and independence in me from an early age. Seeing their dedication made me want to build something where I could take ownership, make the decisions, and create a space that truly reflects my values and vision.

I also wanted the freedom to practice osteopathy the way I believed it should be done—offering not just treatment but a holistic approach to well-being.

How do you help entrepreneurs and business leaders?

Entrepreneurs and business leaders often lead stressful, fast-paced lives that take a toll on their bodies. Through osteopathy, I help them not only address pain and discomfort but also find ways to improve their overall wellbeing. Many of the entrepreneurs I work with come in for treatments to alleviate back pain, neck pain, and other postural issues caused by long hours of work. I also offer tailored advice on ergonomics, stress management, and general wellbeing. The unique methods I use combine physical treatment with mental empowerment, giving these leaders the tools they need to take control of their health and stay productive in their demanding roles.

How do you help companies?

I am passionate about improving workplace wellbeing, especially in a world where so many people suffer from work-related musculoskeletal issues. My team and I work with companies to provide corporate wellness programs that address common issues like back pain, neck pain, and repetitive strain injuries. These programs often include on-site osteopathic consultations, ergonomic assessments, and workshops on injury prevention and movement. The goal is to help employees stay healthy and pain-free, which not only benefits the individual but also boosts productivity and reduces absenteeism. By investing in workplace wellbeing, companies can create healthier, more resilient teams.

What has been your biggest career success?

One of my biggest career successes was winning the Principal Osteopath of the Year award from the prestigious Institute of Osteopathy. It was an incredible honour to be recognized for the work I’ve done, not just in treating patients but in raising awareness about the benefits of osteopathy through my media appearances, writing, and teaching. This award was a culmination of years of hard work, from growing my clinic to expanding my outreach to a broader audience through TV, radio, and social media. It was a proud moment, and it continues to inspire me to push the boundaries of what osteopathy can do.

You have worked with high-profile clientele including Rita Ora, Nick Grimshaw, Alice Liveing and Sir Trevor McDonald, how did you elevate yourself to this level?

The journey to working with high-profile clients began through recommendations from people I had successfully treated. Word-of-mouth referrals led to celebrities seeking my care, and after working with them, many told me they appreciated my relatable personality and clear approach to explaining musculoskeletal health. They encouraged me to post more on Instagram, believing my down-to-earth communication style would resonate with a wider audience. I took their advice and began sharing tips on managing pain, better movement, and insights into osteopathy, mixing in some humor to keep things light and accessible. As I posted more regularly, my Instagram profile grew, attracting followers who were not only interested in my treatments but in understanding the importance of musculoskeletal health for their overall well-being. This online presence has since helped me connect with an even broader audience, raising awareness of osteopathy and expanding my reach both to everyday individuals and more high-profile clients.

You have recently launched your first book ‘Heal Your Back’, what inspired you to write your book?

In 2019, I created a list of dreams, one of which was to become a published author. That goal, combined with my desire to help people, led me to write Heal Your Back. As an osteopath running multiple clinics, I have treated thousands of people who struggle with back pain. This book is a way to share the proven techniques that I’ve developed over years of working with patients and witnessing their pain relief. The book also reflects my passion for educating others about how they can take control of their back health.

What can readers expect to gain from reading your book?

Readers can expect to gain a deep understanding of the causes of back pain and how to address it holistically. The book provides practical tools, exercises, and mindset strategies that not only target the physical aspects of pain but also the mental and emotional ones. The goal is to empower readers to manage and heal their pain, using evidence-based methods and lifestyle adjustments. With real-life anecdotes, progress trackers, and step-by-step guides, readers will learn how to create long-term solutions for a pain-free life.

What does a day in your life look like?

I’m an early riser and find that I’m most productive in the morning. I usually start my day with a strength training session at the gym, followed by a nutritious breakfast of protein oats. After that, I get ready and head to the clinic to see patients throughout the day. In between appointments, I manage the various aspects of running my businesses, from handling contracts to coordinating decorators and overseeing staff rotas.

After work, I go straight home, enjoy a well-balanced dinner, and follow my wind-down routine. I avoid devices for an hour before bed, which helps me get a restful night’s sleep.
